Church Music Resource...

Beginner Band Training

Bandmaster James Anderson created this video series almost 20 years ago. The lessons are still just as good today if you're looking to create a Salvation Army beginner youth brass band.

Beginner Brass Series

The beginner brass series is designed for Salvation Army corps (churches) that would like to get a band going, but don’t have a trained leader in place. You simply need an adult to facilitate these video lessons once a week. These videos could also be used as a review for a new leader or to give fresh ideas for a more experienced leader.

This initial playlist goes through the basics generally taught in the first 3-4 weeks of a beginner class, including posture, breathing, how to hold the instrument, buzzing, tonguing, and music reading. We’ve placed them in a logical progression, but feel free to make adjustments as needed to the individual learning styles of those in your group.
