Music and Gospel Arts Camp 2024 Recap



Our 2024 Music and Gospel Arts Camp, held from July 6 - 13, was a phenomenal experience filled with learning, creativity, and fellowship. We welcomed 109 campers from 13 corps across the great Southwest Division, making it a diverse and vibrant event.


Main Classes and Activities

Campers participated in various core Music and Arts classes, including:

  • Brass Banding

  • Drama Class

  • Keyboard Class

  • Dance Class

  • Guitar/Bass Class

  • Drumline

These classes provided a solid foundation for the campers to explore and develop their musical and artistic talents.




Choir Classes

Our choir program featured three choirs categorized by age:

  • Navajo Choir (Senior Choir)

  • Overgaard Choir (Intermediate Choir)

  • Heber Choir (Junior Choir)

These choirs worked diligently throughout the week, preparing for their performances at the final concert.




Electives

In the afternoons, campers had the opportunity to choose from a variety of electives, allowing them to tailor their camp experience to their interests. The electives included:

  • Hip-Hop Dance Elective

  • Devotion In Motion Elective

  • Worship Keyboard Elective

  • Recorder Choir Elective

  • Ukulele Elective

  • Video Production Elective

  • Visual Arts Elective

  • Choir Chimes Elective




Evening Programs

Each evening, we ended the day with engaging and enjoyable Evening Programs, which included:

  • Campfire

  • Music Staff Fun Night

  • Soloist Competition

  • Worship Night

  • Elect-Fest

These activities not only provided entertainment but also strengthened the sense of community among the campers.




Final Concert and Awards

The week culminated in a Final Concert where campers showcased what they had learned to friends and family. It was a proud moment for everyone involved, and several campers were recognized for their exceptional dedication and improvement throughout the week.

  • Overgaard Choir Award (Intermediate Choir): Alexis Stone, Phoenix (Kroc)

  • Heber Choir Award (Junior Choir): Micah Baker, Tempe

  • Vocal Solo Award (Junior): Hadji Woinewala, Phoenix Citadel

  • Instrumental Solo (Junior): Luke Craig, Phoenix Citadel

  • Instrumental Solo (Senior): Gabriel Romero, Phoenix Maryvale

  • Honor Boy Camper Award: Harlem Weeden, Estrella Mountain

  • Honor Girl Camper Award: Aundrea Jefferson-Silver, Henderson United

  • Eric Loveless Award: Aundrea Jefferson-Silver, Henderson United; Luke Craig, Phoenix Citadel; Gabriel Romero, Phoenix Maryvale


Captain Perfecta Weeden concluded the event with a recap of our theme, "Rejoice," highlighting the growth and accomplishments of our campers. It was truly an awesome time at the Music and Gospel Arts Camp, and we look forward to seeing all the campers again next year.
